Every year, more evidence supports the application of medically refined and prescribed cannabis to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from a variety of conditions. In recognition of this, the Florida Legislature has recognized a wide range of conditions where the risks of prescription cannabis are outweighed by the potential benefits, and leaves it up to physicians to interpret this on a case-by-case basis. In order to prescribe medicinal cannabis, the State of Florida requires the physician to take an examination<<https://flmedical.inreachce.com/Details?groupId=43ad9de9-3183-41ad-8e84-21cd0b20f0b0>> administered by either the Florida Medical Association<<https://www.flmedical.org/florida/Florida_Public/Education/Marijuana_Courses/Florida_Public/Education/Cannabis_Courses.aspx?hkey=0a86c35f-2491-45a8-beb0-16a098ce26ef>> or the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association<<http://www.foma.org/medical-marijuana-courses.html>>. These courses cover the legality and procedure behind prescribing cannabis in Florida, for the physician who wants to have another tool to alleviate the suffering of patients. They do not discuss in detail the clinical side using cannabis as a medication – that is left to the health care professional to cover themselves.
As with any other sub-discipline of medicine, there is a constantly expanding body of knowledge about the best clinical applications of THC and CBD. There are a variety of sources of information on medical cannabis as treatment: they can be found in government publications<<https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/cam/hp/cannabis-pdq>>, the proceedings of conferences<<http://patientsoutoftime.org/the-twelfth-national-clinical-conference-on-cannabis-therapeutics/>>, and even as courses that earn CME credit<<https://themedicalcannabisinstitute.org/>>.
